Precept Ministries Scotland was registered as a Scottish charity in December 2007. Since then God has been opening doors for people in our nation to 'discover truth for themselves' using the Inductive Bible Study method, and our small office in Limekilns, Fife, is now supporting a growing number of Bible study groups across Scotland.
The heart of the ministry is to serve the local church by equipping, enabling and encouraging people to know God and be transformed into the likeness of Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit, by the study of His word. Precept Ministries provides simple but highly effective tools to help people do this as inductive Bible study is 'For Everybody, Everywhere, Anytime, Anyplace, Any Language & Any Age'.
We are excited about what God is doing in Scotland and we love to 'go where the Lord is opening the doors'. Precept Ministries Scotland offers support to and training for individuals, groups and churches across the Christian denominations. Prayer is vital to the running of the ministry, and we are blessed to have a group of dedicated prayer warriors who regularly intercede for the ministry.
We work closely with, but are fully independent of, the national Precept Ministries offices in Northern Ireland and in England & Wales.
Ian and Anna Bartholomew were appointed National Coordinators of Precept Ministries Scotland in March 2007, following Ian's retirement from the Royal Navy in 2006. Married in 1981, they have 3 grown-up children and live in Limekilns.
A full-colour double-sided 'glossy' leaflet (A4 size when unfolded) has been prepared which explains the basics of inductive Bible study, and summarises the Bible study resources & training courses that are available from Precept Ministries Scotland. Precept and the Word of God
Precept Ministries makes your journey through the Bible one of real discovery and adventure. After all, it is the Word of God. Described as "God-breathed" in 2 Timothy 3:16, it is unique and speaks to us individually in every situation today. From studying God's word we can begin to discover God's precepts, His plan for each of us. The Psalmist says in Psalm 19:7-9 that the Word of God "revives the soul, makes wise the simple, gives joy to the heart and light to the eyes". It also gives us the ability to overcome evil (1 John 2:14), and is even described as a sword in Ephesians 6:17. So no matter whether you're just beginning to study His word or are seeking a fresh revelation of God, please join us as together we embark on this journey of discovery.
Precept across the World
Kay, Jack & David Arthur(respectively co-founders and CEO at Precept Ministries International)
Precept Ministries International (PMI) was founded in 1970 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, by Jack and Kay Arthur. Their son, David, joined PMI's staff full-time in 2006 after a varied professional history consisting of serving as a pastor and working in the corporate realm, and was appointed CEO on 1 February 2012.
The Chattanooga campus remains the international 'home' of Precept Ministries and, with its dedicated headquarters staff, extensive office and training facilities, warehouse for the storage and despatch of Precept study resources, book store, and state-of-the-art television and radio studios, is well placed to serve the ever increasing numbers of people world-wide who want to go deeper into the Word of God.
Inductive Bible Study is now taught by trained Precept leaders in 150 or so countries around the world, and Precept study materials have been translated into 70 languages, including Chinese, Hindi, Spanish, even Hebrew - wherever people have a hunger for the Word of God.
Kay Arthur
These inductive Bible study materials have been written by a team of Bible scholars, headed up by Kay Arthur as author and editor-in-chief. Kay has touched literally thousands of lives through her writing and teaching ministry. A well-known conference speaker and author of more than 100 books and Bible studies, she has a unique ability to reach people in an exciting, effective way - challenging each one of us to change and then helping to equip us to be useful in the furtherance of the Kingdom of God. Her authority comes solely from the Word of God, which she continues to study zealously; her compassion stems from a life that has been touched by deep tragedy as well as great triumph; and her deep practicality springs from an infectious and disarming openness of character.
