In his final comments to the church in Ephesus, Paul instructs how they can overcome their unseen enemy. He uses a visual aid, one that everyone at that time would be familiar with, that of a battle-ready Roman soldier. A soldier serves in an army under the authority of a commander, and Paul reminds them that as believers their position is ‘in the Lord’, and that He is their Supreme Commander.

The Bible makes it clear that all believers will be engaged in spiritual battles.
